Our Summer Overnight Camp Coordinators will help support the work we do at the YMCA, by helping create a positive, nurturing environments for all; our staff who care for our campers ensuring they are supported and guided through the summer, our campers helping their reach their fullest potential deepening their connections as part of their overall camp experience and being a servant leader to help support the overall success of camp.  We are looking for those with a desire to be a part of something bigger than themselves and wanting to work in the outdoors,  passion for coaching youth to their fullest potential and being a servant leader to help support staff in their summer role. The job of Camp Coordinator are both the hardest, and most rewarding job you will ever have. Camp Classen staff positions live up to this idea, being challenging day to day, but provide tremendous growth opportunities on a personal and spiritual level.  They will all effectively communicates the camp rules, procedures, and schedules to campers, acting as a role model for campers and staff. Cultivating positive relationships and maintaining effective communication with parents, children and other staff. They will model relationship-building skills in all interactions. Help maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up, with a "It's My Camp" attitude. We are looking to fill the following Summer Camp Coordinator/Lead Support Positions: 

  • Overnight Camp Asst. Coordinator will lead help lead the charge of all things overnight camp.  You will help plans, organizes, and executes unit activities, assists with camper check-in and check-out, assist in supervision of campers and oversees the success the program.  When required, stays in a cabin overnight with campers, ensures that campers are taught skills and, when required, teaches activities. Encourages growth in spirit, mind, and body and positive character development in all campers and staff. Helps plan and participate in all staff training and meetings. Ensures the safety, health, and inclusion of all campers, dedication to job, camp participants and the YMCA cause. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.  
  • Cabin Life Coordinator will  be responsible for ensuring that campers experience a safe,  values-based, and engaging camp environment. This position will mentor  and lead Age Group leads and will be a member of the summer leadership  support team ensuring a safe and positive atmosphere and support the  success of camp as a whole.  They will lead camper awards and  nominations, help lead and organize all camp activities, campfires,  ensure camper mail is distributed, work with office to distribute cabins  life forms, be support for cabin staff to navigate challenges, and  participate and help supervise programs and activities as needed.   
  • CREW Coordinator will work with CREW members age 16 to help take them through their next stage  of their camp experience and their first time staff position. These new  staff will have just completed the CLP (camp leadership program) and  are now ready for to work at camp or are first time staff.  We  understand not all that come to camp desire to be a cabin counselor, but  still want to work at camp and be apart of something bigger themselves  and support the success of camp as a whole. Our CREW Coordinator will  oversee crew staff and support them in their new roles.  Together with  crew staff they will set up and run all-camp activities, challenges,  theme nights and more, as well as support in daily activities.  
  • Waterfront Coordinator and Asst. Waterfront Coordinator  Enjoy spending time on/in the water? Have great ideas for waterfront programming? The Waterfront Coordinator and Asst. Coordinator provides leadership,  direction, and supervision to program participants in all aquatics areas. Plans, prepares, and facilitates age-appropriate activities in  large and small groups. It is required you maintain safe swimming  conditions in the lake, waterfront and surrounding areas.  Plans, organizes, and directly supervises all waterfront activities, lifeguards as well when needed.  Holds weekly in-service meeting and trainings with all waterfront staff and maintains waterfront record keeping as required. Assists with camper check-in and check-out, performs and supervises swim assessments on all swimmers and assists in supervision of campers and oversees the success the program.

Requirements

All: 

  • Must be at least 18, 21 years of age preferred 
  • Certifications: CPR, AED & First Aid. 
  • Must complete Redwoods Online Training within 30 days of hire date.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; 
  • Two or more years of college/trade school or previous experience working with children, preferably in a overnight camp setting
  • Experience working with youth and supervising staff
  • Strong desire to work with children in the outdoors
  • Must be able to self-regulate your emotions in a fast-paced community environment
  • A commitment to working with a diverse staff and camper population.
  • Enthusiastic, engaged and professional personality.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, and responsibilities.
  • Ability to follow instructions and schedules.
  • Experience preferred in at least two or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, canoeing, camping, songs/music,      skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  • Previous summer camp experience preferred.

Waterfront Staff specific: in addition to those listed above: 

  • Certifications: CPR, AED & First Aid. 
  • YMCA Life-guarding or American Red Cross certified - required 
  •  Must have minimum 2-years of guarding experience and demonstrated  qualifications and skills of a guard who has been guarding for at least 1-year. 
  • Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency 
  • Knowledge of safe and proper techniques at the waterfront

  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Will require outdoor work during the summer months. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

$275.00 - $425.00 per week plus room & board
