The job of camp counselor is both the hardest, and most rewarding job you will ever have. Camp Classen staff live up to this idea, being challenged day to day, but provide tremendous growth opportunities on a personal and spiritual level. Summer day camp counselors provide direct active supervision of a group of children in our weekly day camp. The mission of the YMCA Camp Classen is to put Christian principles in to practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises a group of children in our Summer Day Camp program
- Provide a safe environment for children
- Work under the on-site supervision of a coordinator or Program Director.
- Plans, implements and leads program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Dedication to job, camp participants and the YMCA cause.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Know where all group members are at all times.
- Job consists of working with school age children and requires the participation in activities with children.
- Will be responsible for assisting the site staff in planning activities on a weekly basis.
- Position may require work outside the regularly scheduled program hours.
- Maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up.
- Take daily attendance and see that each child is signed in and out by a responsible party each day.
- Actively engage children and participants in activities.
- Report all injuries and incidences to the Director or Coordinator.
- Attend all Scheduled staff meetings and Trainings
- Display YMCA character values (Honesty, caring, respect, and responsibilities at all times.)
- Supervision during swim time; staff are required to supervise both in and out of the water, Required to Swim at least two times per week.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be 16 years of age.
- Must have an interest in working with youth and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be able to self-regulate your emotions in a fast-paced community environment.
- Certifications: CPR, AED & First Aid. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
- Must complete Red Woods Online Training within 30 days of hire date.
- Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.

- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Will require outdoor work during the summer months. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
