Camp is hiring Lifeguards, for our waterfront, who enjoy a fast-paced fun camp environment. Lifeguards ensure the safety of campers, swimmers and participants by supervising the waterfront areas during programs, setting up activities, administer life-saving skills if required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidate will act as a lifeguard during recreational, instructional and exercise usage at the waterfront; must be alert at all times, keeping in mind that the safety of program participants is your primary responsibility.
- Must keep a neat and clean appearance;
- Must work at peak efficiently in all aspects of the aquatic program assigned
- Must arrive and leave work at the assigned times; should be ready to go to work at least 5 minutes prior to scheduled guarding time
- Must be properly dressed according to set standards
- Must enforce safety regulations for swimmers promptly and courteously
- Must provide vigilant, un-distracted supervision of waterfront areas
- Must read and be familiar with staff aquatic procedures
- Must understand and be able to carry out first aid and emergency procedures
- Must report fully all accidents and incidents on the correct forms
- Must check safety equipment when coming on duty and report any problems to the Head lifeguard, waterfront coordinator or Camp Director.
- Must be able to perform all skills constituting a part of the training program for life guarding certifications
- Must clean up equipment and make sure all equipment is stored in its proper place.
- Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency
- Able to work flexible schedules
- Always be professional, alert, courteous and ability to effectively resolve problems
- Must demonstrate integrity and able to follow and uphold the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Comfort and ability to live, sleep, and work in a rustic outdoor camp environment with irregular hours, will stay in cabin with campers and other staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains active surveillance of the waterfront and area.
- Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required.
- Maintains effective, positive relationships with the campers, participants and other staff.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the waterfront area.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and ACA.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Checks the waterfront area for hazardous conditions when arriving.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
- Maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up, with a "It's My Camp" attitude.
