We are looking for young men and women with a desire to be a part of something bigger than themselves and wanting to work in the outdoors and make an positive impact with our campers. The job of camp counselor is both the hardest, and most rewarding job you will ever have. Camp Classen staff positions live up to this idea, being challenging day to day, but provide tremendous growth opportunities on a personal and spiritual level. Overnight camp counselors live in a cabin with 8-12 campers and work alongside at least one other co-counselor to care for the children in their cabin. Counselors will have responsibilities both in and out of the cabin including but not limited to: Developing meaningful relationships with campers, leading devotions, teaching and assisting activities and monitoring the overall care and safety of campers.

Our summer camp staff will help support the work we do at the YMCA, by helping create a positive, nurturing environments for all our campers and staff. They will also help each camper reach their fullest potential and deepen their connections as part of their overall camp experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises a group of children.
- Provide a safe environment for children
- Plans, implements and leads program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Dedication to job, camp participants and the YMCA cause.
- Must be able to self-regulate your emotions in a fast-paced community environment
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Know where all group members are at all times.
- Maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up, with a "It's My Camp" attitude.
- Actively engage children and participants in activities.
- Report all injuries and incidences to the Director or Coordinator.
- Attend all Scheduled staff meetings and Trainings
- Display YMCA character values (Honesty, caring, respect, and responsibilities at all times.)
- Supervision during swim time; staff are required to supervise both in and out of the water, Required to Swim at least two times per week.
- Servant leader in doing what they can to help the overall success of camp

- Certifications: CPR, AED & First Aid.
- Must complete Red Woods Online Training within 30 days of hire date.
- Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
COMPENSATION AND AMENITIES
Housing is provided for the summer.
Camp Shirts are provided.
Meals are provided when dining hall is open.
All training certification costs and time are paid for.
Free laundry facilities and wifi are located in or near staff housing.
